Current Programmes

Youth Classes

Our organization is committed to provide learning opportunities for adults. We have been catering for the needs of college and university students and adults whom were unable to learn the Qur’aan with Tajweed.
Teaching hours are flexible and teaching methods and pace, are set according to individual needs.

Regular Workshops

The organization has also carried out training programs in Mosques around Oldham. These programs were designed to educate young people about our identity and social responsibility and how to live as law abiding citizens of the United Kingdom.

Important aspects of the difference between Islamic and non-Islamic culture were also taught because of the nature of the topics being covered at school during festive periods.

Annual Conferences

We have successfully hosted a number of youth conferences in different parts of Oldham to raise an awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol abuse. A number of current Islamic issues were also discussed. The response was overwhelming, an excess of a thousand people attended our programs most of whom were young people and a significant number of the audiences, were sisters.

Under 14s Inter-Mosque

Part of our summer program is to stage an inter-mosque for children below the age of sixteen. This is to revitalize mosque activities and make going to mosque more enjoyable for young people. It is hoped that
the program will strengthen links between different Mosques in Oldham.

Sisters Network

The 'Sisters Network’ is a sister organization of OIYC. It consists of a group of local sisters whom help run the sisters section in our conferences and other
programs.

We wish to expand activities run by the Sisters Network when we are able to locate ourselves in a more suitable premise.

Interfaith Work

Oldham is a town that reflects the cultures and beliefs of people from many faiths. OIYC feel strongly about the need to build bridges between different faith communities to allow us to live together as one town.

The organization plays a full role in the Oldham Interfaith Forum and Oldham Mosques Council by providing speakers and presentations in local schools and civic events.

Anti Drugs and Alcohol Programme

Drugs and Alcohol abuse is a major problem that affects our youth. Our activities are limited to carrying out workshops designed to make the community aware of the harmful effects of solvent abuse. We wish to provide a counselling service for young people whom are in need of help. The organisation also hopes to open a rehabilitation centre in the near future.

Mentoring Service

Some of our members are involved in helping pupils at a local Secondary School as a response to a request from the Head teacher. This involves advising and supporting pupils whom are underachieving in English and
Mathematics.

The organization aims to offer a borough wide mentoring service to help young people achieve their highest potential.

Future Projects

Boys and Girls Evening Maktab

We wish to establish an Islamic Supplementary School that will provide basic religious education for Primary School pupils.

Boys and Girls Evening Madrasah

We also aim to establish an Islamic School that will offer Alim and Hafiz courses for both boys and girls.

Secondary School for Boys

An all Boys Secondary School with an Islamic ethos is much needed.

Secondary School for Girls

We aim to provide a safe Islamic environment for our daughters to study and attain maximum grades.

Institute for Islamic Research

The institute will house a fatwa department offering guidance on religious affairs.

The organization also hopes to provide a counselling service to help the Muslim community at times of need

Islamic Literature

OIYC aims to serve Oldham’s Muslim community by publishing and distributing Islamic literature and magazines. We hope to address issues that directly affect Muslims living in Oldham.

Funeral Services

There are over 24,000 Muslims in Oldham but only one Muslim Funeral service.

OIYC believes that there is a growing need for more Muslim Funeral Services. The organization hopes to provide this kind of service with additional training programs to educate the Muslim community regarding bathing, funeral and burying rituals.

Humanitarian Aid

The organization has helped relief agencies in the past by providing financial aid at times of crisis.

We hope to set up our own relief agency to play a more direct role in helping those affected by humanitarian disasters.

This may include provision for free education in poverty stricken regions in third world countries, free medical services for the poor and needy or even sponsoring families and orphans.

We strongly believe that education is the most effective route out of poverty. Educating poor people makes them independent and self reliant.

Dear Brothers and Sisters! After reading this brief summary about the aims and objectives of the Oldham Islamic Youth Committee, you may agree that it is a very just and noble cause. It may seem ambitious, but we must remember that anything is possible with the will of Allah. These goals cannot be achieved without your help.

We are in need of volunteers, advisers and wellwishers.
We are in need of your moral support and constant du’aas. We pray to Allah that He accepts us for the service of Islam – Ameen.
