About Us

The Oldham Islamic Youth Committee (OIYC) was formed in 2003 by a group of young people who grew up in Oldham.

Its members had discovered that many of the young people in their community were resorting to drugs and alcohol to free themselves from the pressures of society. In many cases, this type of activity led to anti-social behaviour. The committee had also realised that the Muslim youth were turning further and further away from the teachings of Islam. Muslim children were also under achieving academically and a vicious spiral had been created where the children were following this un-Islamic trend.

The organisation was formed to support our youth away from drug and alcohol abuse and to help them excel in education.

We have many aims and objectives that are solely to create a prosperous Muslim community that will flourish in the 21st century, a community that will deliver and put Oldham back on the map. We aim to create a town that will allow tolerance.
